When should we enrol our children in a Sunshine Coast school?

Do we have to live in a school's catchment to enrol?
For Queensland state schools with an enrolment management plan, yes - in-catchment students are guaranteed a place and out-of-catchment enrolments are only accepted if there is space. What documents do we need to enrol from interstate or overseas?
Expect to provide proof of the child's date of birth, proof of address such as a lease or rates notice, immunisation history, previous school reports, and any support or medical plans. Families arriving from overseas will also need visa documentation. Send scans early so the school can prepare before you arrive.
Should we rent first or buy before choosing a school?
Most relocating families rent first for six to twelve months. It lets you test the school run, the commute and the beach-versus-hinterland trade-off before committing a deposit - and avoids buying into a catchment you later decide against. If you already know the suburb and the school, buying straight away can work.
Is before and after school care easy to find on the Sunshine Coast?

Sunshine Coast University Hospital at Birtinya is the main public hospital with a paediatric service, and there are public and private options across Nambour, Caloundra, Maroochydore and Noosa. Transfer dental, specialist and immunisation records when you register.
How do we help children settle in after the move?
Join one thing early - a nippers club, a sports team, a library holiday program or a school-run parent group. Local sport and surf clubs are the fastest social entry point for most Sunshine Coast children, and school offices can usually point you to nearby clubs and programs.
